KISAPMATA

by Bianca Miranda

January 30 - February 18, 2024

The Tagalog word “kisapmata” means “blink of an eye.” It’s also the title of a punk banger by Filipino band, Rivermaya. Inspired by this song, this new Canadian play tells the love story of two Filipino women—one living here in Canada and the other, born and raised in the Philippines. Through intimate vignettes, we see the longing, the diving in, and eventually, the letting go.

Brown Out Night

Brown stories for a brown audience!

We're so excited to invite the Filipino/a/x community to the Brown Out Night for the premier of Bianca Miranda's Kisapmata! Brown Out Night is a performance specifically for celebrating and welcoming the Filipino community. Kisapmata is a story rich with Filipino culture, language, and traditions. Join us on Saturday, February 3 at 4pm for the Brown Out Performance of Kisapmata, followed by a private reception!

This production's Brown Out Night is an afternoon performance and reception celebrating the Filipino/a/x community, lives, and love stories. We are specifically inviting those who identify as being part of the Filipino community and other racialized (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) communities to make up our audience, for this show.

With that in mind, we will not be turning away anyone who purchases a ticket for this performance. We do ask that if you do not identify as Filipino or identify as being part of a racialized group, please ask yourself why you would like to attend, and what you will add to the space.

Brown and Black Out Nights were created on Broadway with Slave Play by playwright Jeremy O. Harris, the inaugural BLACK OUT night took place on September 18, 2019. We first learned of Black Out Nights due to Obsidian and Tarragon Theatre Companies in Toronto.

Celebrating Pride Organizations

We are excited to have a special day for the run of Kisapmata that is dedicated to Celebrating Pride Organizations. Please join us for a time of entertainment and appreciation for your work and impact! Join us for either show on Friday, February 9 at 12 pm or 7 pm.

Masked Performance

Our priority is providing a safe environment for our patrons, staff, volunteers and artists. In an effort to support the comfort levels of all our guests, Lunchbox Theatre has made the decision to offer select Masked Performances this season. This decision was made to address the accommodations requested by some of our patrons, either for preference or personal health reasons. We hope this option gives reassurance of Lunchbox Theatre's support of all our patrons, and ask that all in attendance respect these special accommodations for these performances.
