Things to know about ushering at Lunchbox Theatre
We produce our shows in Vertigo Theaters Studio space in the same building as the Calgary Tower on 9th Ave.
Our shows tend to run about 55-60 minutes in length not including the preshow speech.
Preferred dress code is black pants, white top, button up, but neat and tidy is what we are after in case you don't have access the others.
Show times are generally 12pm Tuesday to Saturday with additional shows at 7pm on Fridays, 4pm on Saturdays and 1:30pm on Sundays.**
Volunteer shifts start 60 minutes before the show starts.
Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to volunteer for Lunchbox Theatre.
We do ask that you only sign up for one shift per show when the volunteer call first goes out to accommodate our growing volunteer list, so everyone has a chance to sign up. If there are still slots available, we will do a second call out and then you are welcome to sign up for more than one shift.
For fire regulations we are required to have volunteers watching the show to lead the exit should it be required, so please be aware you will have to sit in the theatre if you volunteer, even if it’s your second volunteer shift on the show.
Should you be joined by a support worker please only take one volunteer slot, as in case of emergency your support workers focus will be you not the general public. Just add in the notes that you will have a support worker with you.
The Front of House team will lead you through your position (ticket scanner, theatre doors, inside the theatre or raffle tickets) once everyone has arrived, as well as a short safety chat about fire exits.
The doors for the public open around 30 minutes before the show.
There are seats reserved for volunteers for each performance for you to enjoy the show.
You are welcome to eat your lunch during the show.
There is a talkback scheduled after the 12pm performance on the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of each play, volunteers that day will need to remain longer.
The 1st Sunday of each run is a Relaxed environment with either ASL interrupters or Audio Descriptions available.
Covid protocols (as of Jan 2, 2023) volunteers are not required to be masked while they are in the space, masks are welcome if you prefer. You are not required to be vaccinated to usher or to sell raffle tickets.
**Jakes Gift has a perfromace on Monday November 11th at 7pm and no performance on Tuesday Nov 12th.
