Lunchbox Theatre Announcement:
ARTISTIC PRODUCER SAMANTHA MACDONALD
TO STEP DOWN AFTER 2018/2019 SEASON
Calgary, AB – After five seasons at Lunchbox Theatre, Samantha MacDonald will be stepping down as Artistic Producer in July 2019 to seek other adventures.
In a statement from Board Chair Duval Lang, he shares the following: “It is with deepest regret that, on behalf of the Board of Directors of Lunchbox Theatre, I announce that Artistic Producer Samantha MacDonald will be moving on at the end of the 2018/2019 season. Over the last two seasons, MacDonald has programmed smart, accessible, provocative, and entertaining theatre, and has continued to expand the Lunchbox Theatre audience base. She has set the organization, and her successor, up for great things as we look forward to our 45th season and onwards to our 50th. The Board has commenced a search for a suitable replacement.”
“I am incredibly proud and honoured to have been a part of Lunchbox Theatre’s trajectory for the past five years,” said MacDonald, who has served as Artistic Producer for the last two seasons. “This is an amazing organization with an enormous heart – from the Lunchbox team, to our wonderful audiences, donors and sponsors, to our playwrights and programming. I know that heart will continue to beat wildly and loudly in the years to come and I look forward to seeing the company thrive under new leadership.” She added, “After 30 years in professional theatre and 15 years running companies, I simply feel it’s time for me to try something new. I’ll still be around – I love the Calgary theatre community, it’s been so generous to me.”
When asked what she will be doing next, MacDonald smiled. “I’m not quite sure – that’s what makes it an adventure.”
Lunchbox Theatre will be posting the Artistic Producer position in the near future.
