heaven
Cheryl Foggo
June 7 - June 26, 2022
Story
Heaven draws on the little-known true history of Black pioneers in the prairies. In 1927, Charlotte arrives in rural northern Alberta to work as a schoolteacher and find her own small piece of heaven. A prairie story of resilience, love and baseball.
Heaven premiered at Lunchbox back in 2001, and we are truly honoured to bring Cheryl and this Lunchbox classic back to our stage. Like Cheryl’s recent film created in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada, John Ware Reclaimed (which re-examines the mythology surrounding John Ware, the Black cowboy who settled in Alberta in the late 1800s), Heaven shares a story of Black history in Alberta. Heaven tells an uplifting story of finding the strength and warmth of human connection, even in the cold of the prairies.
